Many people worry about the loss of their hair. Hair is a very important feature to the human appearance. Since it is so important you will probably notice right away when you start to lose your hair. Hair loss can be caused by many different things, and there are different things you can do to either stop or slow down the process. This malady is not just limited to men; it can affect women as well.

The most common cause of hair loss is due to heredity. This type of problem usually occurs in men more than in women. The reason men experience more hair loss is due to testosterone. Men who do not have or produce testosterone do not experience this issue. Men usually experience a receding hairline, whereas women have a thinning throughout. Keep in mind that thinning of the hair, as you age is very common as well.

When going through menopause women might encounter the loss of her tresses. The loss is from lower levels of estrogen, and increased levels of testosterone in the body. This type of hair loss is not usually permanent and usually will return to normal in about six months to two years. You have to allow the body time to regain balance of the hormones.

This is also true for women who have just given birth. Pregnancy and the birth of a child may also cause temporary hair loss. The imbalance of hormones in the body is once again the culprit in this situation. Give body about six months to two years to regain the proper balance of hormones and you will no longer experience this problem.

Certain kinds of birth control may also be to blame for your hair loss. Some birth control may alter the hormone levels in your body too much and cause this to happen. If you stop taking the birth control everything should return to normal within a few months.

A thyroid imbalance can also cause hair loss. If you have an overactive thyroid your hair will become soft and fine and you will experience a loss of that is scattered over the head. If you have an under active thyroid your hair will become coarse and dry and will fall out. For a thyroid imbalance you may want to see you doctor to get the problem under control. With the right medication for your thyroid imbalance you can stop the problem before it gets too bad.

The severity of your condition will help you choose a solution. If your loss is temporary you may not need to worry. Hair growth supplements are also available to you to help slow down the loss. If your loss is beyond the help of supplements you may want to think about other products such as Rogaine, or even a wig. Another option you have would be to have surgery done such as hair plugs.
